Saturday Night - Suburb Style

My kindergartner has taken to making puppets out of paper lunch sacks.

We have a King, a Queen, and their chef. Each one takes at least an hour. So between that and practicing her tap dancing, she keeps pretty busy.

...

Day 14 with no faucet :
I've gone from one pitcher to a pitcher and two gallon jugs. What's scary is noticing how much water gets used. While filling the 9x13 dish currently soaking in the sink, all I could think was, I'm going to have to refill a jug for this.

Sad, but true.

Friday, finally

I brought my plant in a couple weeks ago. Now, they're sitting on folded sheets in my entry way. I'm looking for a way to protect my hardwood floor that's slightly prettier. There aren't any saucers out there that I'm too fond of.
Thoughts?

All Better

My poor ruffled feathers have been smoothed. Field trip and a picnic lunch with a Kindergartner. What would be better?

Is 8 am too early to ask for a re-do on the day?

Some woman thought I bumped into her car in the school parking lot. I didn't.

She yelled at me. And later apologized.

But it was a crappy way to start the day.

...

Today though? Today is the kindergartner's field trip. She has been talking about it for the last two weeks. Every day.

The camera battery is charged. I am pumping myself up, after all they could only take three parents and my name was drawn out of the proverbial hat.

Now, to let some of her unabashed enthusiasm rub off on me.

Take some time

I read somewhere that as adults we don't lose track of time often enough.

Remember being a kid and completely losing track of time? It might be playing outside, Legos, Barbies, reading a good book... Doesn't really matter, but the fact of it is that we lost track of time. We enjoyed ourselves.

As adults, we tend to be so plugged in to 'gotta do' that we forget what we like and want to do. This last week I've been indulging myself a bit. I tend to lose track of time when I make these:
Dresses for American Girl Dolls. Silly. But fun.

Sweet little buttons.

Carefully hand sewn snaps. Maybe a bit of ribbon.

I'm debating putting a few of these on etsy to see if they sell. Also, the school is having a craft fair, but I'm not sure I could get enough done to warrant a booth.

Today I'll be sorting through my fabric to see what others I can make. Maybe I'll fit in a bit of cleaning... Maybe...

Lucky 13

While dining at the neighborhood pizza place surrounded by our brood, I asked my husband:

If anyone had told you thirteen years ago we'd be sitting here, would you have believed them?
He replied he be hard pressed to.

Happy Anniversay, Love. I just keeps getting better.

Room fit for a boy

When we decided to buy this house, we thought the bedroom situation out. I had it all planned out in my head.

Unfortunately, the boy did not agree. Upon inspecting the upstairs, he claimed the loft above the garage.

To get to his room he has to go through either the guest room or his sister's room and the bathroom. He doesn't seem to mind.

He's built a fort by his window seat more than once. That and it has a storage bin under the second section. That's for storing the blankets.

There's also this fantastic built in for his treasures. And his laundry. No closet though. Not much of a problem as how many hanging clothes does one seven year old boy need? He uses the guest closet.

I think he looks pretty happy.

Pioneer Girl

Though no comparison to the pioneers, I feel like one without running water at my kitchen sink. The part won't arrive for 4 to 10 days, so until then I'm bringing water in by the pitcher from the bathroom. We looked for a 'cheap' replacement faucet until the part arrives, but I can haul water for $39.95 + tax. That and the bathroom is 12, maybe 15 steps from the kitchen. So I guess it's a good think I don't have to walk down to the creek because the well ran dry.

Fortunately, my dishwasher still works. There would be mutiny if it didn't. Heh.

Something fun for today: an American Girl dress - made by me!

Early hockey tomorrow - out of state game starts at 7:50. Must get four adults and three kids + hockey gear out of the house by 6:45. Oy.

My parents are here for the weekend. Not sure what we're going to do, but it's good to have them here.

...

Managed a 60 minute walk today. The weather has been absolutely wonderful - mid 70's.

It must be a girl thing

Just got done shoe shopping with my oldest. I think I may have my first grey hair. After three stores, and plenty of "meh" later, we came home.

...

I will say my oldest has had plenty of experience in dressing herself. Being the oldest of three kids in four years, something had to give. By the age of 2, she was not only dressing herself, but picking out her own clothes.

For the most part, as long as it was seasonally appropriate and didn't look horrible... Hey, the job was done and I didn't have to do it.

Now?

Now she has an opinion. My only issue is she's apologetic about it. She kept telling me she was sorry she couldn't find anything she liked. I want her to like them (within reason) - and want to wear them.

...

Zappos.com to the rescue. Not only did we find what she was looking for in her size, but customer service was terribly helpful when I made an error in ordering.

She's looking forward to getting them. I'm looking forward to relegating her old ones to the garage...

Snippets

Not much today - I sewed, walked, grocery shopped, had lunch with my husband, and cleaned. Pretty typical day.

...

My girls are in dance. It's amazing how natural it comes to both of them. Not me. Oh no. Two left feet.

...

After having my laptop for two years, I finally managed to download pictures (versus the big monster in the basement). Go me.

...

We decided to draw names for Christmas this year. If you could have one thing for $50, what would it be? $100?

Not just post every day...

I've set myself up with a couple challenges this month.

1. I'm going to walk/jog/run every day and blog about it. This month I just plan to keep track of my minutes. There won't be any pictures, because really... Who wants to see that?!?

2. I'm going to sew every day and post a picture of what I've done. Right now I'm working on a Double Wedding Ring quilt. I've really enjoyed making this, and look forward to doing pieced arcs next time versus solid ones. I really like how this one is coming together. I haven't decided on backing/binding yet, but I have a feeling once I see it all put together, something will come to me.

Still trying to recover from Saturday night. We had a good time.

All vamped up

So the little white dress didn't quite work out. I couldn't get the halter snug enough to keep the girls contained, so I went with my next option...

I had three separate people stop me and want my picture. I have (hopefully) better pictures on my camera (this was from my phone). Quite frankly I'm a bit worn out to even walk to the basement and download the pictures. With the time change and all, the bars stayed open an hour later. Oy.

Hope all the little ghouls and goblins had fun last night.
