In My Defense*

Your honor, I'd like to submit these into evidence of why I haven't yet returned to the workforce.

Exhibit A:
Exhibit A is being the most difficult as of yet. She's complaining of being hungry but not knowing what she wants, excessive crying both while in bed and standing next to me, complaining of a mysterious substance on the roof of her mouth that can not be seen, and coughing and gagging while taking the medicine that will make her feel better.

Exhibit B:

This exhibit, while generally quite agreeable, did manage to find me at 11:30 pm and proceeded to want to lay right next to me all night even though he was running a fever thereby making me sweat. He also managed to keep either his knees or feet, or both, on my back most of the night. While not knowingly or meaning to try and push me out of bed, it was very annoying.

Yes, Your Honor, both Exhibit A and B are in my bed. Yes, those are the sheets and blankets I washed yesterday because I thought they were "better."

Exhibit C:

Exhibit C is home today because she was sent home from school yesterday with a fever. Though happily playing with her American Girl dolls, eating peanut butter crackers, and drinking plenty of fluids - she is still a bit punky. That and she frequently forgets to "cover her cough" and likes to cough in my face and on my food.

I rest my case.

...
On the up side, yesterday was such a good hair day I didn't want it to end.

*I really don't feel the need to defend myself. I just like to think I'm funny.

Take two Twinkies and call me in the morning

Over the weekend at my parents', I just couldn't shake the feeling.

You know... That something is wrong. It started the Wednesday prior, a nagging ache that just wouldn't go away. We drove back from Cow Town, my bladder aching all the way. I shook it off with a gallon of cranberry juice and plenty of water. Saturday we headed back out of town to visit my parents.

By Sunday though, it would not be ignored. My entire body ached.

I ended up in Urgent Care. A quick sample later diagnosed a UTI.

Seems simple enough, but it's really knocked me out for a couple days. Monday we headed home and off to The Boy's baseball game. Tuesday I thought I felt better, but by mid-afternoon I was ready to call it a day.

And in a fashion, I did... I dug out the hidden Twinkie package from the double-secret-probation hiding spot, gobbled them down and headed to bed. There is something to be said for having my husband home.

Three hours later I finally woke up, finally feeling better.

It's all going to be ok...

Dad went home yesterday, strict instructions to be up as he felt like it, but don't be afraid to rest. At this point, with him wanting to be home, that is the best place.

The good news from pathology is that the cancer was contained. They got it all. Staples will come out Friday.

Feel that breeze? That was my sigh of relief.

...

I have still managed to be quite crafty. I took my 'worry' bag with me - a bag filled to the brim with 100% cotton yarn perfect for washcloths. I think I ended up with more than 25 once it was all said and done.

...

After making my first baby clothes quilt, the mom I made it for wants me to have a trunk show at her home. She thinks it's just the neatest thing and that everyone should have a quilt made out of their old baby clothes. Me too. ha! Now I just have to finish up the other two that people have asked me to make.

Happy Hump Day!

It's Sunday, right?!?

Since I left the house Thursday morning, the days have been a blur. The drive was in one word - shitty. I think I drove through all possible forms of precipitation - snow, sleet, rain, hail, 'wintry mix,' and fog. Not fun, but with the XM Satellite radio blasting, I could barely hear the wind.

It was strange Thursday night at my parent's house - I can't remember the last time it was the four of us. I'd picked up my sister (and her four month old) and chauffeured her to my parents. Her car is not the best for wintry driving and we didn't quite know what we'd be up against. Though we tried to go to bed at a decent hour, I don't know that anyone had a good night's sleep.

With at 4:45 wake up call, we were at the hospital by 5:30. Two pagers and three waiting rooms later, they were rolling my dad toward surgery at 7:30. It was difficult to see someone I'd always believed to be invincible to be rolled away on a gurney.

Surgery took a bit longer than expected, but the doctor was pleased with the result. Pathology will be back in a few days, and we'll have a better idea of what we're dealing with.

Friday, pretty much high on multiple painkillers, my dad alternated between joking around and sleeping. I took my sister home late in the afternoon. Yesterday, was not nearly as good. Today has been better. Having been on a liquid diet yesterday and so far today, he's looking forward to a little food today. Hopefully everything will cooperate. The doctor has referred to his recovery as 'textbook.'

I'll head home sometime today, but for now I'm content to sit in the corner alternating between reading and crochet.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I really, really appreciate it.

So, so sick

My youngest has the most darling habit of repeating the word 'so.'

As in, "Mommy, this dinner is so, so good." The more so's, the better.

Unfortunately, I find myself so, so sick. It's the "love me, love my bathrobe" type of sick. The carry several tissues in my pocket sick. The NyQuil is my best friend sick.

Nothing I haven't had before, but couldn't it waited until after Christmas? I have things to do!

Anticipating I still wasn't going to feel good, yesterday I bowed out of helping in my son's classroom today, so I have an unexpected 'free' morning. I'm debating on going back to bed, laying on the couch, or working on a double-secret-probation Christmas project.

Right now there are a lot of double-secret-probation projects going on.

...

As an aside - I'm really struggling on what to give my husband for Christmas. We are bound and determined to cut back this year, and did buy ourselves a 'group gift', but I have the feeling he has something else up his sleeve. He usually does.
