More little things...

My winter hating husband has maintained a walkway to the grill... He bought me a tiramasu birthday cake without any prompting...

Most importantly - for the last two days he's been sending me to bed the moment he walks in the door. Granted, dinner is made, but he feeds the kids, cleans up the kitchen, keeps them out of my hair, and gets them ready for bed. I reappear around 8:15 for bedtime snack, help tuck in, then crawl promptly back in bed.

We've been married for 11 years. Though by no means an expert, I've determined it's not the big, grandiose gestures, but the small, daily things that make a marriage work. It's me being able to throw the bag of trash right outside the door, and he'll pick it up and put it in the bin outside. It's me asking if he needs a snack after the kids are in bed. It's him recognizing that I need to make big crafty messes for my sanity. It's me recognizing that he needs a boy's weekend to the Indy 500 every year. It's him calling to see if I need anything on his way home and me calling him to see if he needs anything while I'm at the store.

With that, I'm thanking my lucky stars for that man of mine, and crawling back on the couch. Hopefully, I'll feel better tomorrow...

I love this entry - it's never the big things (although a COACH bag now and again doesn't hurt!) that matter - it's the little things that remind us that we found a really good man.

I'm so glad we both have one...

You are absolutely right! And it is not taking each other for granted, but realizing how much those little things really do matter.

Did you know our wedding cake was really tiramisu?
