Here's the thing...

We spent the day today undoing the house. You see, my house must be undone - tree, decorations, etc down - by no later than December 31st. Why the rush?

It's very important.

While most are gradually coming down from the holidays, I have one more.

New Years Day.

You see, I spent January 1st, 2000 in the hospital. At 12:04, The Big Girl was born. Yes a "Millenium" baby. We didn't plan it, that's just how it happened.

It is important to me to make space between Christmas and her birthday. In some ways, it's really nice to have a deadline, otherwise, I'd end up putting Easter eggs on my tree. Really.

Where was I? Oh yes, undoing the house. My contribution was the kitchen and dining room. May not sound like much, but after being gone for a week, even though I cleaned it out fairly well before we left, the fridge was disgusting. And the dining room? That was Christmas Central aka the drop point for all my craft crap.

I managed to get the kitchen back in order: cleaned out the fridge, freezer, and pantry. Then went grocery shopping and and managed one surprise for The Girl.

Only one surprise for her birthday? Mostly. We decided, my girl and I, that it would be more fun for the two of us to go shopping together and pick a few things out. She is growing up and I'm worried I'm not giving her enough of myself. I asked her what she wanted - cd's, earrings, a bike, maybe some clothes. Whose child is this? She'll be eight on Tuesday.

At least it will be what she wants.

There was a point to all this, but I can't quite remember what it was... Oh yea. She's growing up and I can't stop it.

On a completely unrelated topic-

Can I just tell you all that my sister loved her hot pack?

Loved it.

She even named it.

Colton.

And rubbed it on her face.

It's been awhile since I've heard her laugh that hard.

Wednesday night, my husband and I were hanging out with our friends S&M. I had purchased a craftycrap magazine earlier in the day and I couldn't wait to look through it. As I was perusing it, I found the perfect use for the other fabric. I yelped and hollered. M wondered what was wrong with me. I had had a little to drink by that point, and I couldn't stop laughing.

I can't wait to share it after the first of the year. Oh lordy, it's good...

Almost as good as the bottle of SoCo I'm trying to finish off...

I think that is the opening sentence of a romance novel I have stashed under my bed.

Hee!

Had she been born 5 minutes earlier, you could have gotten a tax deduction that year!

My sister is December 31st, my parents lucked out on their taxes!

I'm taking down ornaments at this very moment.

Yeah, the cowboy fabric is a little racy! Very funny.

Aww, that's sweet that you make sure she feels special on her bday. Most people just go for Jan 6 and the epiphany!

Happy birthday Big Girl!

P.S. Happy belated Christmas! :)

You are such a thoughtful mom! Lucky kids!

I got a stack of crafting books from the library yesterday. Husband was making fun of me for saying "Oooh!" every two minutes. Cheap thrills!
