Heavy thoughts for a Monday

Another great weekend. What can I say? We met some friends and their two little girls at my parents - the boys did their thing (golf and an Indy car race) and the girls? We did a lot of relaxing. With the exception of the six miles I put in Saturday, I did not leave my parent's property.

There is something satisifying about just hanging out. The kids were able to romp on several acres, and not once did we hear, "I'm bored" from any of them.

Which brings my to my point. Six miles. At this point in marathon training, it should have been fairly easy. It was not. Yes, my foot is still bruised from the bag of ice I dropped on it a week ago, but it's more than that. I'm still 'heavy.'

I hesitate to say 'fat,' even though by technical defination I am. Fat. That is.

Exhibit one. And there will be only one...

We're at my mom's retirement dinner. I'm sitting like Jabba the Hut by my boy.

Rather than bitch any more about it, I made a couple decisions regarding my training:

1. No more hard alcohol. I know this one's pretty severe, but it had to be done. Originally I was going to cut out any alcohol and Diet Coke, but I figured that might kill me. So save the occasional girly wine cooler, I'll be laying off the booze.

2. Cut down on Diet Coke. No more Super Slurpers from the convenience store, and it won't be kept cold in the fridge. Maybe a can every other day. Maybe.

3. Weight Watchers. I had wonderful results with this after #2 was born - If you consider losing 50 pounds wonderful. I'm not looking for that, at least not yet, but 20 pounds or so would be nice. I simply can not run another marathon at 200+ pounds. Wednesday marks the end of week one, so it will be interesting to see where I'm sitting then.

Otherwise, today's an off day for running, so I'm going to clean out the dining room and catch up on laundry. Hopefully I'll have before and after pictures. Of the dining room, not laundry.

First and foremost, you bear no resemblance to Jabba the Hut.

Six miles can feel very hard at times. My five yesterday was not an easy feat for me. It sucked in fact. So, yeah, it sort of happens.

Good luck. I think the hard alcohol is going to be key in it, I really do. But maybe limit it to during the week or something?

i'm fat too. luckily, i'm also unemployed and running out of money, which helps (because i can't afford alcohol or starbucks or sonic). here's to losing our respective lardasses together...

Awww, bless you honey. You compare yourself to Jabba the Hut and here I sit like Buddha!!! Ha ha.

Good luck losing the flab. It's times like this I wish I was a picky eater then it wouldn't be so hard!!

You can do it!

I just joined WW online. I can't stomach the meetings anymore, but I wonder if online will be good enough. There is something to be said for having to look someone in the eye when you hit he scale.

You don't look anything like Jabba-the-hut. But I know what you mean about feeling too heavy, especially while running. But 6 miles?!? That is more than a LOT of people-skinny or otherwise--can do or will ever care to do!! Just think...at one point you MUST have been saying the same thing about doing 3 or 4 miles. Now those are a lot easier and 6 miles sucks. One day soon 6 miles will be nothing and it'll be the 10 mile run that'll be kicking your butt!

Keep up with the GREAT job!! And love the running updates!

I am in awe of six miles, you are so NOT jabba the hut, and I am with you on not doing another endurance event without losing some weight! You can do anything you put your mind to, you've proven it over and over.

2. We are Amazons, you and I.

3. Big, tall bones.

4. I need to get back on the wagon too.

5. Kick me in the ass while you are at it, too, OK?
