Swimming, Biking, and Running - Oh My!

Yesterday I borrowed the neighbor's jog stroller. The tubes on mine are shot. It is not as easy running while pushing/pulling a stroller with a 35 pound toddler as it is just running. The boy rode his bike, and we went five miles - there is a park 2.5 miles from the house. Took drinks and snacks and made a fun trip of it.

Today I decided to get new tubes so I could use my jog stroller. Both Target and WalMart were out. Stopped by the local "Bike and Ski" shop. They had them and even though I had to pay a little more, it's done. I've noticed an anomoly around here - they double up on the sports - like 'bike and ski or hockey and golf shops. Use the weather to their advantage, no?

As were were leaving, I noticed a flyer. Oh boy. Chisago Lakes Triathlon. In July. They are offering a Half Ironman and a "Sprint" distance.

As a point of reference the traditional Ironman is a 2.4-mile swim (about 3.8K), a 112-mile bike ride (179.2K) and a 26.2-mile run (42K or a marathon). One after the other. In one day.

The half-Ironman event is a 1.2-mile swim (about 1.9K), a 56-mile bike ride (89.6K) and a 13.1-mile run (21K).

The sprint event varies, but for this race it is a .25 mile swim, 20.5 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile run (5K).

I'm thinking about the sprint event.

That said, I'm four weeks out from the marathon. So far, the training's been going fairly well. This is the long week - yesterday 5, today 10, tomorrow 5 and 20 on Saturday.

Then the taper starts.

Next Saturday Dad and I are running in the "Dam to Dam" race in Des Moines. The 20K race fits in nicely with my training. Plus, it's always fun to run with my Dad.

I think you'll be in great shape for the Sprint Tri. I always think I would love to do that, but my open water swimming leaves a lot to be desired.

Triathlons seem to be "catching" these days. My friend is doing her first in a couple of weeks and another at the end of the summer. They have some great prep classes around here. The surprise for me was all the equipment to do it.

Good luck with the marathon!

Oh, that sounds like fun, G! And something to focus on after the marathon. But please allow your body to rest and rejuvenate for a week or two.

Thanks all...

Tree, I'm planning on taking at least a week. Promise.

Heather - I'm thinking swimsuit and cap, bike and helmet, and running shoes? They do have a couple training classes, so I may look into one of those.

Mayberrys - thanks!

Aimee- Thanks!

Tanaya - My swimming is OK... I'd have to find a place to practice. At least 'open water' around here are lakes and not the ocean...

Wendy also amassed a bike trainer to ride inside, special swim flippers and what seems like a billion accessories :)
