Countdown to June 16

No, I'm not pregnant, just trying to run a marathon...

"Most important at this time is to establish a goal, whether that goal is to finish or to run fast. Once that goal is chosen, everything else will fall in place."

From Hal Higdon's Novice Marathon Training Program, week 1.

Day two of training. Day one was a 'rest' day, so that I did. Did three miles, though. I can already tell that boredom will me the enemy while on the treadmill. I did grab a copy of Redbook and perused that while shuffling along. I also geared up the Ipod, but can tell already that I need new music. Problem? I don't know where to start. So if anyone has a playlist they'd like to share... Even better, if you'd burn it for me, I'd be happy to pay shipping.

Once spring comes and the days are longer, I'll be able to get more running done outside. Right now, by the time my husband gets home, it's dark and cold. I don't mind the cold, but I am easily spooked while running after the sun goes down. Not yet committed to running before he leaves, but may start splitting my runs once they get a little longer - say do the nice 4 mile loop before he leaves and then 2, 3, or 4+ miles on the treadmill later at the gym. I do enjoy going to the gym; it gives me a nice little mental health break in the day.

On the ride home, I heard the familiar strains of Violent Femmes' "Blister in the Sun" and was ready to start singing when I realized... It was a Wendy's commercial. Might as well have walked into an elevator and heard AC/DC as Musak. Does this mean I'm getting old?

No! The Violent Femmes' music as background to the little redheaded girl? ACK!

Okay. I owe you a disk. I found I could not burn cd's at my desktop and that is where iTunes is loaded. BUT, I can provide playlists... as long as you do not laugh at some of the selections. I have just created my playlist for the marathon in t-19 days.

And now you also have a taste of what running 18 miles on the treadmill was like when I could not run outside. MINDNUMBING is the word.

I am so darn proud of you and will be there with you (in spirit) every step of the way. I know you can do this, G. When you need that extra push, just let me know. I will give it.

I am in awe of your goal. I can't imagine all that time on the treadmill. After reading about the Wendy's commercial I went and downloaded Blister in the Sun. Then I saw the commercial, talk about a blast from the past!

yes, we're getting old. i realized this the first time the music was too loud. and when i figured out that what those little a-holes refer to as "retro" i simply call "music."

if you're not opposed to late 80s/early 90s hip hop, i'd be happy to burn you some killer gym jams...but i'm warning you, it will include nwa's "bitch better have my money.."
