RIP 1/1/2000 - 1/2/2007

Last week, on Tuesday, my youngest decided she'd had enough. I was ready too. We've toyed with it before, but it never lasted until now.

For the last week, my baby has stayed 'dry' all week. No more diapers during the day - even during nap when she takes one. She still needs to be reminded to go occasionally, and I can deal with that.

Looking at them over the past week, I'm astounded at how much they've all changed and how much they've grown. I'm a "kid" mom now, not a "baby" mom. How they are striving to grow and change into their own person, yet they still want to snuggle in for story time at night. I see the struggle for them to be 'grown up,' yet still come in to need a boo-boo kissed, or a someone-done-me-wrong hugged away.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this. This is the first time in seven years I haven't had one (or two) kids in diapers. Though it feels freeing, it's sad in a way. It's an exciting chapter to close, but sad to see my 'baby' go. It's hard because I know my days of chubby-arm unabashed hugs are numbered.

For now, I'll know that there will be a little more laundry to do, and a little less trash to haul out.

Okay, if it makes you feel at all better, just think about how much impact you're going to have on the environment without all those diapers going to the landfill.

Seriously, though, I know it's bittersweet for you.

It never expected to have so many feelings about all my kids firsts and lasts--even the less than fun ones. Congrats on moving to the next stage.

Well, I'm all about the bright side. No more diaper funk in the house. I was thrilled that K-Man was done before we moved into our new house...no diaper pail in the digs. Also, congrats on the little one moving ahead so fast!
