She put herself to sleep

This has been a long time coming.

I'm a rocker. No, not that kind.. More like this.

From the day I've brought my babies home, I've rocked them to sleep. I'm on my second rocking chair. I rocked my first to sleep until she asked for her bed at two. I rocked my boy, cradled over my 9 month pregnant belly, and after. Same for my third - only without the pregnant belly. I rocked and shushed, stroked the hair from their eyes and sang quietly. I petted and patted them, listening for the slowing of breath, gathering up their limp body and gently rolled them into bed.

I think my rocking days are coming to a close. When I told my two year old it was time for nap, she crawled in her bed and said, "Cover!" So I did. "Night night big girl, I'll be back." Three minutes later she was asleep.

In some ways I'm looking forward to it - with her laying by herself, it will cut the bedtime routine down quite a but. But I'll also really miss it. Just one more reminder that my babies are growing up.

I'm a glider myself but I guess it's the same. I can't seem to break myself of rocking Hailey to sleep at night. She'll probably be 20 and still be needing me to rock her.

And I'm ok with that.

No need, she'll let you know when she's ready.

Oh, I miss it (the rocking)! L. doesn't want it any more already, and she's not quite 18 months.
