It's all good...

This weekend was busy. Busy, busy, busy.

It all started innocently enough. Our neighbor's son was short handed for a soccer game, and asked if The Boy would be able to help them out.

Sure, but given that he would have a hockey game that morning, and had never played soccer before, we couldn't make any promises. They said that just having an extra kid would be help enough.

The hockey game didn't go as well as we'd hoped. They got down 4 - 1, managed to tie it up, only to lose 5 -4.

Alas, we still had a daughter to get to dance and a soccer game...

They managed to get ahold of an extra jersey and shin guards. He had black shorts and cleats. With a little pep talk from the coach regarding rules, he was ready to go. His only concern was that he didn't know the penalties for soccer.

...

Later that night, we had the End of the Year Hockey Banquet. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, pop and best of all... Free Skate.

Yes, he's trying to help his little sister and she wants no part of it. She can do it Herself.

After a day of hockey, dance, soccer, and countless hours playing outside, the kids still had energy for free skate. My husband and I were ready for Happy Hour.

...

Last night, The Boy figured out something else...

He's big enough to drive the mower.

Getting bigger, they are.

...

How did the soccer game go?

They won. The Boy was the leading scorer with six goals.

Sounds like you have an athlete on your hands. I know many of the "hockey" parents around here use soccer as an off-season (I call it cross-training) the two are very complementary.

(Also very odd to see kids in skates in shorts.)
