Why I'm glad I'm not corporate anymore

Just received this e-mail from a former coworker/friend:

"We have a huge e-mail policy change at work effective Jan 2nd. If I open any personal e-mails at work, I can be fired. So, please............DO NOT send me any emails to my work email address of name@bigcorporation.com. ONLY send them to my yahoo address of friend@yahoo.com . I can't even check my yahoo account from work anymore, either.

If you need to reach me during working hours for an emergency, please call me at (###) ###-####."

I worked at this company for eight years. There were 'weird' things going on when I left, but I can't believe it's come to this. Holy freaking crap.

Yea, it's good not to be corporate anymore.

ITA!!!! I am so happy to be in small business. I feel terrible for your friend and all your former coworkers. Living under a suspicious regime can not be fun.

Ditto. That blows.

Of course, at my comapny, goofy-ass emails fly around all day long and sometimes I wish they would cut it out... but I'd rather have the atmosphere be fun and go a little too far some days than be all "Brave New World"-ey.

Way to ensure employees give the bare minimum and keep an eye out for greener pastures. Sheesh!

That makes me think of when Kyle was still at UBS and his branch manager literally READ his e-mail and told him, "It's great that you love your wife, but don't write that in an e-mail."

Haven't they got anything BETTER to do?
